TriStar Summit
December 20, 2016

TriStar Summit Medical Center held their first Facebook LIVE discussion on "Holiday Blues." Dr. Chad Kurzynske, Internal Medicine with Hermitage Primary Care discussed signs and symptoms of this common condition. He discussed what "Holiday Blues" were as well as seasonal depression. Many times people this time of year suffer from saddness from loss. This may be their first year to celebrate the holidays without a loved one. Financial pressures of the holiday season as well as year end can make you feel sad and depressed. Dr. Kurzynske talked about the importance of sleep during this busy time. He also encouraged patients to say "no" to some events. We tend to over commit this time of year and that places a lot of anxiety on us. It is "ok" not to attend every holiday party or gathering. He encouraged moderation in both food and beverage consumption. He also stressed the importance of physical activity. Find creative ways to get activity into your day...if possible get outside on sunny winter days even for a little bit it will help lift your spirits. Above all please talk to your physician, church pastor or close family/friend if you feel you have the Holiday Blues or depression.
